"it's been a long time since we rapped at ya" but we want you to know it's not your fault. it's not your fault....it's not your fault

we've just been tucked away in our little corner of the world writing the songs that will be on the next release. we are going in with zero rules, a ton of ideas, and absolutely no idea what will come out the other side. so far you can expect some wildly different stuff from what you've heard, along with some very familiar 'echoes' themes.

we're excited and we're having fun, which after all is what this is all about.

Thanks to everyone for making our first show of the year so great

It was wonderful to look out and see all of you showing support. We had a great time and especially enjoyed playing the new tunes. Gold star goes to Brahm for soldiering on despite the hideously awful flu he caught. Bravo.

Today I'm going to head into the studio and keep working on the new songs. We've got a lot in the works and are eager to get them finished ahead of our next gig....

To celebrate, Echoes de Luxe and some very talented friends will be performing the record live and in its entirety at The Satellite in Los Angeles!

So far we have the drumkit set up and are trying out mic placements. The challenge of recording in a place like this is that you have to figure everything out as you go. The room sounds incredible though, and we're going to take advantage of the acoustics as much as we can.

There's been a lot happening in our world, even if we've been bad about updates....sorry

Mostly we've been writing new material and fine-tuning our light show for each song. We were able to get some video from our last show at the Viper Room, and we'll piece together some snippets so you can see what all the fuss is about...

As for our new EP-we're still looking forward to its release but want to put something special together, and not have it be another hum-drum free mp3 download (although those are pretty good things).

Music videos are in the works for at least 1 of the EP tracks. We've always been excited to get these made and are collaborating with friends w/ cameras to make it happen. Fingers crossed.

Also scoping vans for some short tours, to hopefully turn into long tours...

Last weekend we were able to track all the drums, bass, and my rhythm guitars at Pulse. This weekend we go back to finish up with Justin's guitars and keys, and lastly I will lay down vocals. It's been an absolute dream working with Dave and Ryan, we can honestly say we've never sounded better.

We've been sitting with the mixes from our recent session at Pulse Studios. Since we tracked everything in just two days, we weren't able to get too in depth with the instrumentation and vocals. There's a couple things we are dying to improve, and are hoping to do just that. We're 90% happy with everything, but want to put our best work out there.

Over the weekend we laid down some rough tracks for three new demos. This week we'll finish them up and finalize arrangements for a couple more new tunes. Working titles for the songs are "Never Odd or Even", "Bringing Me Down", and "Dead and Gone". You'll be happy to know they are the greatest songs ever written.

News: Writing Update

Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone, but it does mean that we've been busy writing a ton of new material.

All in all there's about a dozen new songs for an upcoming release. Some of them are fully arranged, whle others are still in their vestal stages. The plan is to enter an LA studio within a few weeks to fully track and mix some of these tunes for a new release. All in all we are proud of what we've come up with so far, and are simultaneously getting a couple ready to try out in our live set.

Speaking of live shows, we're getting our new lighting rig together for some dates in the next couple of months. Pretty excited to share our new show.

While Justin managed to trade two Echoes de Luxe CD's for a ticket to Muse at the Staples Center, Riss and I accompanied Dave Navarro to the PETA awards where he was presented with Humanitarian of the Year. Dave's acceptance speech, which was both impassioned and appropriately imflammatory, was definitely a highlight of the night. Number 2 on that list was meeting Iggy Pop. Fuck that dude is cool.

Greetings,

We thought it was about time we let you in on what we've been up to these past weeks. There's been some big changes, and some small ones...

First off, and obviously, we've given all of our websites a semi-permanent facelift. We're in the process of launching "Echoes de Luxe 2.0", and want to let our sites reflect the new, sleeker us.

What's "Echoes 2.0" mean? Glad you asked...essentially we're taking all our hard work, and then working harder. For a start that means revamping our live show and fine-tuning everything in order to create a really powerful live experience. We're incorporating some exciting lighting elements, mixed media segues, etc. The goal is to blow people's heads off, but since we're in Los Angeles, if we get enough people to stop texting during our songs, we're doing pretty good!....All joking aside, we're very excited to unveil the show. No idea when that will be yet, but probably late October/early Nov.

Writing never stops, and at this point there are at least 7 new songs that have a chance of being completed Echoes de Luxe tunes. Many ideas pop up that we bat around. Some survive the initial critical stage, most don't. We're pretty picky when it comes to writing and creating our music. These new songs see us moving forward in the direction heard in "The NotreMonde Demos", but with a stronger "self-edit" button. This is a band that struggles with the world's dwindling attention span, so we're being realistic about it while remaining true to our creative voice (how diplomatic!). Again, at this stage there's no plan to record them, but we hope to do that as soon as possible. One thing's for sure: we do NOT want to start a recording project near the holidays! That's a recipe-for-disaster lesson learned twice over....

We're currently assembling a 3-song EP to be pushed to college radio in the fall. At this stage it will include radio edits of "The Ride", "So Long", and "Astronaut". We're doing some of the remix/edit work ourselves, but are enlisting the help of a certain talented individual. More on this later, but we have high hopes for this project.

Finally, we're taking steps to combine the #notremonde band blog with our official website feed. Basically what this means is you will start seeing more of the creative/artistic updates once limited to the Tumblr blog here on this site. Expect some brief album and show reviews, photography, etc. Head over to the #notremonde site to see what we mean...

Echoes de Luxe shows are about to get a lot more exciting. Shown are two pars and a strobe, with a programmable foot controller to call up lighting scenes. Not shown is an 8-light bank with flood, music, and strobe effects. Maybe a fog machine will join in later....

We’ll be testing these out in our rehearsal studio to be ready for our gigs in October. Along with these, we’re working in other elements to make our shows more “multi-dimensional”. Should be fun.

After this past string of local shows, we will be going away for a little while. We'll be holing ourselves up in the studio, finishing new songs and revamping our live show. We've always had the desire to bring in added elements to our set, and have been designing a portable lighting rig to bring to shows. We'll be unveiling it at an as-yet unannounced venue, so stay tuned.

I (Richard) hold this day close to my heart. Literally the day after graduating high school I began working at my favorite indie record shop, Bull Moose Music, and continued to work there for the better part of 4 years. While all my friends were in college, I was running a record store. That experience has been one of the most rewarding in my life. Besides opening my eyes to more music than I could ever absorb it instilled in me a love and appreciation of the record store community that I hope will thrive the world over. Any time I walk into an indie music store, no matter where I am, I feel like I am home..

AND-it was news to me, but my old boss, Chris Brown, apparently STARTED Record Store Day. How about that?.....So here's a goofy video of him showing off all the special releases that bands like the Rolling Stones, Them Crooked Vultures, and the Beastie Boys are offering in honor of this special day. He really hasn't changed a bit.

Last night was hands down the best show of the acoustic residency so far. Andrew from Queen Kwong sat in on drums for us and it made all the difference. Grace and Manners played a tight set, and we were joined at the end of the night by Matt Bain (Eve6) and his new project, The Sequel. They're playing The Fold in Silverlake tonight (3/25) at 7:15, be sure to check them out.

As we get ready for tonight’s show at Bordello in downtown LA (we’re supporting pals Socadia for their ep release party), we are ecstatic to report that the final mixes of the NotreMonde demos are complete!

We’ll be giving away some of these songs tonight, and are readying a web page for their easy download and distribution. We’ve got big plans for this year, and are thrilled to have a collection of music that shows off what we hear in our head.

It’s been a lot of hard work, and we’re proud to say it was all done “in-house.” We were adamant about not spending a dime on this project so we could save our hard-earned (and scarce) money. This means we pass the savings on to you!! These songs will all be given away for free, though we may ask for an email address. Hope that’s not too much to ask….

First things first, we’ll play our first show in some months, then tomorrow we’ll get these songs posted so you can hear them.

ok, we’ll admit it….these recent “demo” recordings are taking far too long. In fairness we should never start a project during the holidays, as it is inevitable that we will have to take breaks and cram studio time in around everything else that is going on. That said, what IS recorded is sounding superb (if we do say so ourselves) and we are all impatient and anxious to get it done. The goal for TODAY is to post that near-complete version of “You, I, Me” replete with vocals for everyone to hear.

We have known their drummer Dusty for some time now and they're a great band, so check them out. Incidentally a very early lineup of Echoes performed at Bordello many many moons ago. Now for the real thing....

As of today all keyboard parts have been laid down. It's now up to Richard to track vocals for the remaining songs and finish his last-minute guitar overdubs, then it's on to mixing. It seems the band has been able to stick to the schedule they laid out in December, which means everything should be mixed, mastered, and ready for download by the end of January. We're looking into easy ways of downloading all 8 songs at once to save time. Barring that they will still be available the same way "Astronaut" is here. Just click the mp3 icon next to the song in the player and the download should start automatically. (Help yourself if you haven't already...)

Everyone is thrilled with how these songs have come together in the studio, and we all can't wait to share them with the world. What better way to start 2010 than by giving away a free record???

As for the band, the holidays aren't slowing us down too much. Justin has as good as completed all his guitars for the recordings, so you can hear the updated version of "You, I, Me" HERE. Over the holiday break Richard will begin tracking vocals, and after that it is keys and some last minute overdubs and we're finished.

We're thrilled to share the songs with everyone, they're sounding better and better each day.

News: Bass Tracks Are Complete

Proud to announce that all bass recordings for the new demos are complete. Tomorrow we start setting up and mic'ing guitar amps. Pictures and video will be coming as we show all the rigs and setups, (for those of you who are into that kind of thing.)

We are also sharing the tracking process of one of our new songs, "You, I, Me." Right now you can hear the rough drum and bass mix of the song on our Tumblr blog: "NOTRE MONDE:::NOTRE SON" (Our World, Our Sound). As we track the guitars, vocals, etc, we'll upload the versions so you can hear our progress, and maybe gain some insight as to how we achieve our sound....

A bulk of Richard's guitar tracks are finished, so over the weekend the band will be setting up the studio to track Justin's parts. First up will be "You, I, Me", the song we are posting successive versions of in order to show our 'creative process'. If you haven't already, check it out here.

Tonight is also Echoes de Luxe's last show of 2009. It's been a busy year and the band is excited to get this new collection of songs into everyone's hands and start the new year with renewed momentum and energy. We encourage all our LA fans to come out to the show and celebrate with us.

It's official. As soon as we get back from Marshallpalooza in San Diego, we will be setting up the XDL studios for our new collection of demos. Some of you have heard versions of these songs at our live shows, and others have been kept secret....All in all they represent a truer vision of the band's direction, and a synthesis of our varied individual tastes.

We plan to run a tight ship, meaning we will get some completed by the Thanksgiving break. Here's a brief rundown of the songs we will be tackling:

When the Devil Lies
Places Called Home
You, I, Me
The Ride
Don't Know How to Cry
So Long
The Ashen Year
Breathe

Most importantly, ALL of these demos will be made available for free download in some way or another. We'll work out the details later, but keep in touch and we'll announce their release.

Our screening of the short film "Beyond Words" is imminent! We're still excited to see it, but will have to remain patient for a little while longer.

To the uninitiated our song "Alchemy" serves as a major piece of the score for this story. We expect and hope this film to do well at all the upcoming festivals, and can't wait to set our eyes on it.

Hello

These days finds us seriously looking into our recording options for releasing the next batch of songs. For those who have caught our live show lately you have heard some of the new stuff We have been getting great feedback on it-it's very encouraging! The new tunes work to "fill in the gaps" on the EP, and also see us pushing ourselves in new directions. Regardless we really want to see a release before year's end, and are working hard to make that happen.

In other news we are currently booking as many shows as we can over the next few months. We are sticking to So. Cal. right now, but as things progress we will start reaching out to our friends in San Fran and the Northwest, Vegas, Arizona, etc. A true goal would be to play our old haunts in New England, which we left so many years ago, but never really "left behind."

New merch is also on the way, and we will have shirts and posters for sale on the site soon! (we hope)

*PLUS* good friend Todd Newman (a familiar voice to all "Dark Matter" listeners) is editing together a live video of "The Price of Love" from the footage he shot at our show 7.19. Should be finished and put online asap!

Had a great time on Dave Navarro's Dark Matter last night. Dave and I had a chance to play an Echoes de Luxe tune, and even collaborated on Pink Floyd's "Fearless." We also got a call-in from Kerry Brown and Billy Corgan whom Dave played with on the recent Spirits in the Sky tour. Hope they enjoyed the 'Floyd...

Last night the band tried out some new material at the Dragonfly in Hollywood. The "secret" show was filmed and live performances may be deemed suitable for public consumption...

This is also an advance notice of the group's next show, also at Dragonfly, October 25th at 10pm. The band offers a limited guest list to any and all who RSVP via email.
